Spring 2017 MAP Testing

Dear Parents,

During the weeks of May 8th – 25th, your child will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP).

We give students MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year in the areas of Mathematics, Reading and Language Usage. Your child will take the tests on a computer.

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Additionally, MAP tests allow us to administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth. Over the next three of weeks, your child will spend a total of about 3 hours completing these tests.

What’s new about testing this school year?

We are testing Grades 6 and 9 in Science this year and we hope to be able to extend testing in science to the other grades in the very near future.

How does MAP work at ASM?

  • Students in Grades 2-11 are tested twice a year: Winter (January) and Spring (May)
  • MAP Tests are offered in Reading, Language Usage, Mathematics and Science
  • Introductory Program students DO NOT take MAP tests in the Winter session.
  • MAP Tests DO NOT require any content preparation; MAP tests are offered to determine your child’s instructional level and needs.
  • Prior to their first testing season in the year, students are offered a 15-minute orientation by their teacher(s); students also take a familiarization test in the computer lab prior to testing
  • MAP reports are available immediately after testing.
