Eight enthusiastic students from ASM took part in the IASC asteroid-search campaign organised in collaboration with NASA’s citizen-science initiative. Over the course of the campaign, they analysed real astronomical image data, learned to use the specialised software tool (Astrometrica) to spot moving objects against the star‐field, and submitted their findings for possible new minor‐planet discoveries.
Their participation gave them hands-on experience with genuine research practice, fostered teamwork, deepened their understanding of observational astronomy and planetary science, and connected them to a global network of citizen-scientists contributing to NASA’s near-earth object efforts.
Congratulations to the students and ASM for this outstanding engagement in real-world STEM!
