“Towering Above”
This past year has been full of challenges. Here at ASM, we want to celebrate our ability to rise above the challenges as we continue to strive towards excellence in all facets of learning and life. Therefore, the theme for this year’s S.T.E.A.M. Week is “Towering Above.” Students will be challenged throughout the week to express their views of this theme through projects in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

ASM Engineering Design Challenge
Towers are built in all shapes and sizes as well as for many different purposes. In this challenge, students will explore how tower design impacts stability and strength.
KG0-KG3: Students will explore examples of towers, how to build towers, materials that can be used in tower building, and then will be challenged to see how tall of a tower they can build.
G1-12: Students will compete within grade levels to see who can build the tallest paper tower. View the introductory video below. Modifications may be allowed at the teacher’s discretion for elementary students.
Winners from each grade level will be announced on Friday, April 9th. The winning projects will be displayed in the main reception and photos will be posted on ASM’s social media pages.
ASM Talent Search
Writing: We are accepting submissions of poems and articles related to the theme “Towering Above” or STEAM-related careers and interests for inclusion in our weekly student newsletters.
Art/Technology: If you love to draw, paint, sculpt, build, photograph, or film, we are happy to accept submissions that relate to the theme “Towering Above” to add to our talent display in the main reception. All submissions will be returned to you.
Please be sure to include your name and grade on all submissions. Digital submissions can be emailed to [email protected]. Hard copy submissions can be given to your division principal.

STEAM Careers
Students are invited to visit the display boards during recess and lunch where each day we will highlight a new STEAM-related career. Parents and other members of the community who work in STEAM-related careers are invited to submit a short photo or video of you at work. A link to your photo or video will be posted on the STEAM Careers display board. Email your photos/videos to [email protected].
