Summer Learning Packet 2025

At ASM, we believe that summer learning is very important to students’ futures. It helps to keep their academic skills sharp over the summer and it sets them up on the path for success for the new academic school year.

Learning assignments are provided for the following core subject areas:
● English Language Arts (1 task mandatory for all students & 1 task optional).
● Math (1 task mandatory for all students & 1 task optional).
● Science (mandatory for all students).
● Social Studies (mandatory for all students – assignment according to class level).

Completed assignments should be submitted to your subject teachers at the beginning of the academic year.

ASM’s Grade 5 – 11 students (G6-12 in 2024-25) have at least one MANDATORY summer learning assignment to be completed during the summer break, which will form one of their first grades on the English grade book for the academic year 2024-25.

 

ASM’s English Summer Learning Assignments are designed to provide a supportive transition for students to the next academic year. The assignments will help students to keep their minds sharp and stimulated through the long summer break and enable them to practice, develop and refine their English reading and language skills.

Then locate the grade you will be in for 2024-25 to access the summer learning assignments and PDF copies of the novels for the summer reading assignment

G5 into Grade 6 Complete the IXL learning assignment AND choose ONE book to read from the assigned list over summer and complete the task.
G6 into Grade 7 Complete the IXL learning assignment AND choose ONE book to read from the assigned list over summer and complete the task.
G7 into Grade 8 Complete the IXL learning assignment AND choose ONE book to read over summer from the assigned list and complete the task.
G8 into Grade 9 Choose ONE book to read over summer from the assigned list and complete the task.
G9 into Grade 10 Choose ONE book to read over summer from the assigned list and complete the task.
G10 into Grade 11

ALL students are required to read:

  • Trevor Noah’s memoir Born a Crime by Trevor Noah and complete the Learner Portfolio Notes and One Pager assignment.
  • Specific selected chapters from How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas C. Foster and complete the assignment tasks A) and B).
G11 into Grade 12
  • ALL students are required to read The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien and complete the tasks.
  • In addition to this, HL (Higher Level) students are required to read Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel Garcia Marquez and complete the tasks – it is compulsory. Standard Level students can complete this as an optional task for extra credit.
