Character Education

ASM believes that a comprehensive, sustainable, and integrated character education program is key to helping students internalize values that have stood the test of time.

We not only focus on known academic curricular outcomes that enrich a student’s cognitive development but we are equally concerned with the emotional development of each student in our school.  Our character program is designed specifically to enable students to develop these character traits: Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Caring, Fairness, Citizenship, Resilience and Persistence.

In every class and throughout our program we have developed lessons to target students’ development of these known traits.  In the Lower School students are immersed in discussions and activities that highlight these traits on a daily basis.  In the Upper School, during Advisory and through core classes, students are guided to an understanding and some metacognitive writing and discussion about these traits in the context of their lives in and outside of school.   In order to achieve our Mission Statement and our Profile of the Graduate goals, ASM has integrated Character Education throughout the program.
