Ensuring Fair and Consistent Assessments: Lower School Teachers Collaborate on Writing Moderation

Moderation is concerned with the consistency, comparability and fairness of professional judgments about the levels demonstrated by students.” (Maxwell, 2002). The Lower School teachers spent time working together to moderate samples of the writing process from KG0 to Grade 5. All classes worked on presenting a ‘personal narrative’ and the teachers were able to check their judgments through professional discussion.

Symposium on Opportunities for Financial Aid at US Colleges & Universities featuring Mr. Gordon Dino Koff.

Did you know that there are over 4,000 colleges and universities in the USA, and many of them award financial aid and scholarships to international students, inclusive of housing?
Applying to college and university is complicated, especially for those curious about US colleges and universities. The ASM College Counseling Department offers students and parents an afternoon with an application and financial aid expert in an effort to demystify the process.
Join us at the American School of Marrakesh on Thursday, October 10, for the Symposium on Opportunities for Financial Aid at US Colleges & Universities featuring Mr. Gordon “Dino” Koff, Director of Financial Aid at the Ivy League institution Dartmouth College. Snacks will be available starting at 1:30, and the program will begin at 2:00. Classes will be shortened so that all 9th-12th graders may attend. Parents are encouraged to arrive at 1:30 and stay for the program, which will end no later than 3:30.
 
Mr. Koff has been the Director of Financial Aid at Dartmouth College since 2015. He has worked for over 25 years to help make college and university more affordable for students from around the world. He will speak about the opportunities for financial aid in general at US college and universities as well as specifically at Dartmouth College. 

Topics of Mr. Koff’s talk will include:

  • What kinds of financial aid are available at US colleges & universities, and what costs does the aid cover?
  • How much financial aid can a student receive?
  • Who receives financial aid?
  • How does a student apply for financial aid at US colleges & universities?
  • What documents are needed for the financial aid application?
  • How does the need for financial aid affect admission to a US college or university?
  • What is the timeline for application for admission and for application for financial aid?

Mr. Koff will be joined by the Head of the American School of Marrakesh (ASM), Mr. Stephen Morison, who will speak briefly about the importance of planning ahead for college and university, and by the Director of Student Guidance & College Counseling, Ms. Emily Allen, who will speak briefly about the timeline and the most important elements for application to college and university.

Mr. Gordon Dino Koff, Director of Financial Aid at the Ivy League institution Dartmouth College

Since 2015, G. Dino Koff has been the Director of Financial Aid at Dartmouth College. He has previously worked at Geisel School of Medicine and Vermont Law School. Dino has worked for over 25 years to help make college more affordable for students from around the world.
